President Banda knew about the chief’s ailment at the rally on Wednesday in the area after visiting Mudzi Transformation Trust projects, distributed cows to 15 families under the One Cow One Family before encouraging people to vote back the People’s Party in power.
Banda said she was ready to support the traditional leader in his illness by sending him for further medical attention and that family members should discuss on the kind of assistance they may wish to receive.

“Let me remind Malawians that when I took over government the economy of this country was in shambles, but now I have managed to raise it up to 6 percent,” Dr Banda said.
She also said her administration has helped Malawians with relief food during lean period by ensuring that ADMARC depots in Malawi have enough maize so that vendors do not take advantage of people by selling the commodity at exorbitant prices.
President Banda, therefore, asked people to vote for the PP in the forthcoming elections, saying: “My appeal to all registered voters is that you should be alert with some of the politicians who are opportunists and will never come back to you after the elections.”
Speaking at the same rally, People’s Party Presidential running mate Sosten Gwengwe said recently a European based Economic Intelligence Unit conducted an independent survey indicating that the PP was an obvious winner in the May 20 Tripartite Elections.
Gwengwe said good leaders are chosen by God as such President Banda would emerge the winner at the May 20 general elections.
He said party’s front runner would compete with 11 presidential candidates, noting that the development would divide votes leading to the PP’s victory.
“We can talk and talk but leaders are chosen by God himself as he chose President Banda automatically after the death of late Bingu Wa Mutharika,” Gwengwe said, adding that President Banda is poised to rule again after winning the elections.
He therefore urged all Malawians to refrain from violence during the campaign period.
Speaking earlier, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr James Munthali said that President Banda has assisted the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security by introducing many programmes like the one cow a family to improve an individual household’s status.
He said farm inputs under the farm input loan programme has also contributed to crop productivity at both national and household level.
Munthali added that since a cow a family programme started in 2012 through the presidential initiative on poverty and hunger reduction it has distributed about 800 cows to farmers and it is expected to distribute 1 million cows.
